Red Wine

First, I am very partial to red wine, as it is my favorite. Red wine has a much deeper taste and has great tannin, which you can read about in tasting wine. Contrary to what many people think red wine is not the color red because the grape is red. While red wines are made from red or black grapes, the fermentation process determines the color of the grape. Many beginners believe the color of the grape will determine the color of the wine. Maceration is the process when you leave the skin in contact with the juice during fermentation.

Merlots, Cabernets, and Pinot Noirs provide that oaky, spicy and strong tannin taste that is great with red meats, cold winter nights and stong tasting cheeses. See below for some of my favorite wines and favorite pairings.

Favorite Reds:

RandyZin

This wine is 100% Zinfandel mainly from the Russian River Valley. Harvest Moon was one of my very favorite Wineries and this was my favorite wine from there. Below is the desciption from their website...

"Sumptuous in color, this full-flavored Zin begins its journey with perfumed dark berries on the nose... On the entrance, this wine fills the mouth full and round, while on the finish, it's all about the juicy mouthwatering acidity and dusty mixed berries... And with a moderate 14.5% alcohol, it's dry and balanced…"

Trinchero Cabernet

This wine is a basic wine that you can find at almost any super market. I am not sure if I am just comfortable with the taste after many purchases or if I am really drawn to the flavor. Either way it is a repeat buy. Below is the description for their website...

"The medium plus body combined with juicy ripe fruit and flavor-enhancing acidity make our Cabernet Sauvignon a staple for many of our winery dishes. This versatile wine is a complement to grilled steaks, salmon or even a meaty pizza. Enjoy."
