History of Wine |

|
I am sure we all know the story of Jesus turning water into wine…which would date wine back to 1st century. But, while researching the history of wine, I came across many stories referring to the "World's Earliest Wine". This is in reference to a jar believed to be used for wine from 7000 years ago. According to Archeology.org, the liquid held inside of the jar left evidence that the grapes were intentionally fermented and were not accidentally turned into wine. The University of Pennsylvania holds the jar that proves wine was created 2000 years early than originally projected.
According the winepros.com, wine also had a large influence on the Greeks. Wine was used by doctors and the Greeks learned to add spices and herbs. By the first century Europe was crawling with wines, mainly imported from Italy. Soon, regions in France and Spain were planting there own vineyards. Wine did not bit America until 1769 when Father Junipero Serra planted the first vineyard in San Diego. Wine traveled from Spain to Mexico 1525 and remained there until Spain ordered them to stop in fear that Mexico would become self sufficient. The church was the only loophole and wine continued under the safety of the missionaries. America took a hit during Prohibition, but thankful survived and has since been thriving.
